Class meeting is a new initiative to us indeed but we take it very seriously because we learn to solve our problems as a class within a classroom. We had our first class meeting today, which went on well as students deliberated on the classroom rules, routines and expectations. we shall be having these meetings every Sundays and Thursdays.
I have tweaked our classroom timetable to cater for better learning and content coverage. The following are the changes you will notice on the tweaked timetable:
In a bid to familiarise my students with real life responsibility, I have decided to create classroom job vacancies that I filled in today. I explained what is expected of them in their respective jobs. The appointments will be in rotational basis to ensure every student gets an opportunity to experience what it feels like to have a job and to be responsible.
I am currently using this website www.readtheory.org courtesy of Ms. Annie (Year 5.2 Classroom Teacher) for formative assessment of reading and writing. It gives well explained feedback to students on their text responses, calculates the Lexile level of the students as well as the scholastic reading level. This has been very helpful in acquainting me with the areas my students need help the most. The beauty of it is that it is done online and students love it.
We shall have the Effective Communicators' Day on 23/3/2017. All students are expected to prepare a sandwich board with a positive message on it. This board will be won on Thirsday. Examples of the messages students can display on the sandwich boards are:
